CJA Article Updated On: January 7, 2021, 3:38 pm MST

The judiciary’s Defender Services account received funding to increase the Criminal Justice Act (CJA) panel attorney hourly rates from $152 to $155 for non-capital work and from $195 to $197 for capital work performed on or after January 1, 2021. Where the appointment of counsel occurred before January 1, 2021, the new hourly compensation rates apply to that portion of services provided on or after the effective date.

The General Services Administration (GSA) has announced an increase in the reimbursement mileage rate for privately owned automobiles when used for official travel. The new reimbursement mileage rates is $0.56 per mile and went into effect on January 1, 2021, for travel performed on or after that date.

The 10th Circuit Court of Appeals has upgraded its CM/ECF system to the Next Generation of CM/ECF ("NextGen"). In order to file with this court, you must have an upgraded individual PACER account- shared PACER accounts are no longer permitted. Please note that NextGen accounts are distinct from your firm’s PACER account; they are individual accounts an attorney will use to practice with the federal courts for the duration of his/her career.
