Panel Attorney Hourly Rate And Case Compensation Maximums Increase Effective 2/15/19

The judiciary’s Defender Services account received funding to increase the Criminal Justice Act (CJA) panel attorney hourly rates from $140 to $148 for non-capital work and from $188 to $190 for capital work performed on or after February 15, 2019. Where the appointment of counsel occurred before February 15, 2019, the new hourly compensation rates apply to that portion of services provided on or after the effective date. The waivable case compensation maximum amounts for non-capital representations have also increased from $7,800 for direct criminal appeals and $2,300 for other types of appeals to $8,200 and $2,500 respectively.
