When possible, we prefer that applicants enclose letters of recommendation with their applications. We will accept applications without letters of recommendation for those law schools adhering to the law clerk hiring date, but please include a list of your references in your cover letter. Likewise, we will accept unofficial transcripts until final transcripts are available. The application materials should include at least two writing samples.

Positions for the 2021 to 2022 term of court have been filled.

Applications for the 2022 to 2023 term of court will be accepted now, and should include:

Your cover letter, resume, at least two letters of recommendation, and two writing samples, one unedited by others.

Please send your most recent law school grades as they become available. Class standing is preferred to be in the top 15%. Demonstrated leadership and law review experience are highly recommended.

Hard copies by mail are acceptable with a copy also sent to the preferred delivery at: Clerks_TMT@ca10.uscourts.gov

Judge Matheson welcomes clerkship applications for the following:

• Two one-year positions, one will begin August 2025, and the other will begin in late December 2025.
• Three one-year positions that will begin August 2026, and another that will begin in late December 2026.

Applicants must have completed at least two full years of law school coursework. Applications from students who entered law school in 2022 (graduating class of 2025) will not be reviewed before June 10, 2024.

Applicants should submit a cover letter, resume, law school transcript, writing sample, and two recommendation letters to OSCAR.

Term Clerkship for the 2026-27 Court Term

Judge Bacharach is accepting applications for a 2026-27 term clerkship position. Law clerk applicants should submit a cover letter, resume, law school transcript, and two writing samples that have not been edited by anyone other than yourself. You may submit applications via OSCAR or by email to susan_stands@ca10.uscourts.gov. In addition, letters of recommendation may be submitted under separate cover.
